Planning 7–10 days in China

Compare a city-focused China itinerary with a nine-day journey including Zhangjiajie, and decide how much travelling fits your trip.

China Beyond Travel · Updated

Start with the experiences you want, then count the days available between arrival and departure. Adding another city also adds a transfer: the right itinerary leaves time to enjoy the places you came to see.

Which route should you start with?

Our seven-day Classic China route focuses on Beijing, Xi’an and Shanghai. The nine-day Essential China route adds Zhangjiajie and has a brisker rhythm, including three intercity transfers. Compare the actual daily plans rather than choosing by the number of places alone.

What changes when you include Zhangjiajie?

In our nine-day itinerary, two full days are set aside for Yuanjiajie and Tianzi Mountain, followed by Tianmen Mountain. Travel into and out of Zhangjiajie takes additional time. The Xi’an–Zhangjiajie connection needs checking for your dates before the route can be confirmed.

Where can you make the journey more relaxed?

If your dates are fixed, consider visiting fewer cities. If the places matter more than the length, compare the twelve-day route with the same four main destinations. Tell us which sights are essential and which you are happy to leave for another visit.

What information helps us shape your trip?

Share your likely arrival and departure cities, available dates, group size, hotel preferences and the experiences you most want. Tell us about long transfers or walking days you would prefer to avoid. A sample itinerary is a starting point; your proposal should spell out the services and arrangements for your trip.

These comparisons refer to the sample itineraries linked below. The final route and services are agreed for your travel dates.

Before you decide.

Does the advertised day count include travel days?

Check each itinerary. Arrival, departure and intercity transfers appear in the daily plan where included; a nine-day itinerary does not mean nine full sightseeing days.

Can I change the cities or reverse the route?

Tell us what you would like to change. The order needs to work with your travel dates, transport connections and sightseeing arrangements.
